Here is some important information about COVID-19 Safety, camp times, and what to bring to camp.

COVID-19 Safety: **Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, whose family has any symptoms of COVID-19, or who has been in contact with anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19 is not to attend the camp.

Please review the coronavirus symptoms here: https://www.healthlinkbc.ca/symptoms-covid-19

Some important things to note:

  • No sharing of food due to allergies, no sunflower seeds, no gum.  No nut products please!  Please double check your child(ren)’s snacks and lunch to make sure there are no nuts or traces of nuts.  We have some children with severe allergies so please take precaution.
  • Spring Break Camps: Please meet each morning in the left field of Riley Park Diamond.  Parking can be found in front of the left field of Nat Bailey Stadium (next to the Hillcrest Community Centre parking lot) as well as in the Riley Park parking lot (on East 30th Avenue just west of Quebec St).
  • Summer Camps: Please meet each morning in the right field of Hillcrest Challenger Diamond.  There are various areas of shade throughout the day that we will use.  Coaches will ensure players are sitting supervised in a shaded area and drinking water during break times.
  • Parking for Summer Camps can be found in the Hillcrest Community Centre parking lot as well as on Peveril Ave in front of the diamond.  Please note that on days the Vancouver Canadians play home games, parking will not be available in the Hillcrest Community Centre parking lot from 4:00 pm for evening games, and on Nooner Days from 11:00 am.  Please be mindful of traffic when picking up your child(ren) on afternoon game days, as there will be a lot of traffic around lunch time for morning pick up / afternoon drop off, and the end of the camp day for pick ups.  Please check the Vancouver Canadians schedule if your child is in After Care for Hillcrest Community Centre parking lot closures at 4:00 pm (7:05 pm game times) and use Peveril Avenue for pick ups:

Please prepare to camp for your child:

  • Registration payment (if you have indicated you will pay at the start of camp please submit a payment by cheque or cash).  You may pay also by E-Transfer to [email protected].  For recent payments or payments on the first day receipts will be sent out shortly after.
  • Sunscreen: please have your child come to camp wearing sunscreen.  If possible, please send them with sunscreen to reapply at lunch.  The camp has plenty of sunscreen for anyone who does not have it in the mornings and to reapply at the end of the lunch period.  Coaches will apply sunscreen for those that do not have their own during the day.  It is important to wear sunscreen during sunny days for the Spring Break Camps.
  • Snacks (We will have a break once in the morning and once in the afternoon for snacks).
  • Water & Water Bottle (refills are located at the field.  It is recommended to bring several water bottles [2-3 water bottles] for the day).
  • Healthy Lunch (we will take a 30 minute lunch break in the middle of the day).
  • Baseball Glove (I recommend that each player has their own glove.  The camp has many additional gloves if required that the camp will lend for the week).  All other baseball equipment is provided at the camp.  Players are welcome to bring their own helmet and/or bat, batting gloves, etc.  I ask that we use only the safety baseballs provided by the camp though.  Those players with their own bat please check that into the coach at the first base entrance upon arrival each day for the Summer Camps, and third base entrance for Spring Break Camps.
  • Athletic clothing / shoes: Running shoes are welcome, cleats are optional.  Please wear shorts for hotter days (athletic pants are suitable but should be lightweight, please be mindful of the temperature).  Please come to camp prepared with weather appropriate clothing, especially for Spring Break Camps as well as the Summer Camps.
  • Athletic supports are highly recommended for players for safety reasons, parents please prepare an athletic support for your child(ren).

Our camp does not permit nuts or nut products.  Please take the time to ensure you do not send your child to camp with any nuts or nut products, due to allergies.

New registrants will receive a jersey (shirt), hat, and wristband at the start of their first week for the year.  This is theirs to keep, please wear the uniform each day if possible.  Those who have attended a previous week in the Spring Break or Summer Camps please bring your uniform from earlier this year.  Additional shirts can be purchased for $10, hats for $15, and wristbands for $5.

Washrooms are located at the back of the community centre building and a coach will take children to the washroom (Summer Camps at Hillcrest Challenger Diamond).  For Spring Break Camps, washrooms are on site at Riley Park and a coach will take children to the washroom.

For Softball players – the Softball stream will be combined with the Baseball program.  Softball players will be able to train with softballs as opposed to baseballs for their skills and at bats during games.  We have dedicated softball coaches at the camp who will assist your child(ren) with the training.

Camp hours:

Full Day: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm

Mornings: 9:30 am – 12:15 pm

Afternoons: 12:45 pm – 3:30 pm

Please arrive between 9:15 am – 9:30 am to sign in for mornings or full days.   A coach will assist your child(ren) in finding a cone for their bag in the right field area for Summer Camps at Hillcrest Challenger Diamond, and in the left field area for Spring Break Camps at Riley Park.  Coaches will be providing a uniform if receiving one.  The coaches will be setting up the field between 9:00 am – 9:15 am each morning.  I will be taking camp attendance at 9:30 am each morning (and 12:45 pm for afternoon registrants).  For afternoon registrants please arrive between 12:40 pm – 12:45 pm as we will be having lunch up to this time.

*Coaches and I will be greeting parents / players on the first day.  For morning or full day players feel free to arrive at the camp from 9:00 am on the first day up to 9:30 am to receive a uniform.  For afternoon players please wait until 12:40 pm to sign in due to the lunch break.

Before / After Care – If you have not scheduled Before / After Care, but require these additional times please let me know.  For those scheduled in Before / After Care a coach(es) will be there for practice / supervision for the times indicated on the registration form / invoice.  Before Care starts at 8:30 am each day, and After Care goes until 5:30 pm each day, with drop offs from 8:30 am and pick ups until 5:30 pm.

If you have any specific questions please definitely contact me on my cell phone by text message or phone call, as well as email is great too.

*I do my best to keep the player : coach ratio at ~ 7 children for each coach.  We will train skills in the mornings after warm ups, Monday – Thursday (infield, outfield, batting x 2) and play games in the afternoons (with an additional game Friday morning after warm up).  Please note that for Spring Break Camps we will have 1 batting day and 1 advanced throwing day instead of 2 batting days.  Players will have ample opportunity for many at bats during the afternoon games and see live pitching appropriate to their skill level led by the coaches.  Children will be grouped by age and coaches will make any adjustments necessary for exceptional skill levels after the warm up at the start of the week.  Generally speaking, we have 4 groups based on age at the camps, with approximately 50-55 players at Spring Break Camps in total, and ~75 players for each Summer Camp week.  Spring Break Camps we will have 2 games based on age in the afternoons, while Summer Camps we generally have 4 games based on age for afternoons.

Weather – Please check the forecast before camp days to prepare accordingly for the weather.  For rainy weather, we will be playing baseball up to a medium rain.  If it does rain on certain days and it is too heavy, we will take children into the library at the community centre.  If rain is in the forecast, I will likely send out an email to parents the evening before just to give an update for the following day.  Please note that if your child(ren) will not be attending camp due to the weather, you may credit the missed day to a future camp date as spaces are available.  I will do my absolute best to accommodate your date request for a make-up day.  Often, the last 2 weeks of Summer Camp are a good time to credit any missed days from Summer Camps, and anytime in the Summer is good for Spring Break Camp credits.  Please bring a plastic bag cover for backpacks and bags and a sweater, rain jacket, and gloves are recommended too for rain days.  Generally, we don’t see too many at all during the baseball camp seasons, but please do come prepared in the event it does happen to rain on a camp day.

For all camp information please review the website: www.vancouverallstars.ca if you require more information about the Daily Schedule, Programs, or FAQ’s and any other information pertaining to the Baseball camps in addition to this weblink.

Looking forward to a fantastic week!  Your child(ren) are all stars and Coaches will provide the best training possible to keep them safe, having fun, and learning / playing baseball!

Sincerest Regards,

Paul
